HORSEPOWER

Be it four legged or four wheeled - We've had a love for horsepower from the beginning.  We both grew up on farms learning early on what hard work is all about.  Our love for horses began when we were growing up in western Kentucky with quarter horses, mules, Belgians, ponies and donkeys.  Growing up in the 60's and 70's, we both also loved muscle cars.  It just seemed natural to have horses and old cars around as our two sons were growing up.  After selling our crop farm / hog operation in 1990 and purchasing a smaller farm closer to Elizabethtown, we slowly began buying horses with quality bloodlines.  Over the years, we have come to appreciate the smooth ride, style and beauty of the gaited horses and mules.  Consequently, our goal at Oak Ridge Stables:  To raise, show and sell quality gaited horses and mules.

Our oldest son was born almost three months premature and because of complications, he has spastic cerebral palsy.  With only a 25% chance of survival, Shane is proof that God still performs miracles.  Being confined to a powered wheelchair doesn't stop Shane from enjoying horses or race cars for that matter.  He actually has his own time trial tickets from two different drag strips.  With special permission, he was allowed to ride as a passenger with his uncle in the quarter mile strip.

With slight modifications to an aluminum race car seat, we secured it to a horse cart to allow Shane to be mobile with assistance!  Shane enjoys participating in parades, trail rides, and the show ring.  Our younger son and daughter-in-law,  Ben and Tiffany, have blessed us with a granddaughter.  She, too, loves horses and began riding in lead line classes when she was a little over one year old.  This year Skylar will be four and learning to drive the miniatures in order to participate in youth driving classes.  Check our "scrapbook" page to view pictures of Shane and Skylar as well as the rest of our family enjoying our love of horses and old cars.  We are anticipating an exciting year at Oak Ridge Stables with our second "crop" of gaited mules.

Please come back and visit us often as pictures of the new foals will be posted as they are delivered.  Thanks for visiting our website.   We sincerely hope you enjoy your visit.
